The Natural Language Processing Group (GPLN) focuses on natural language machine processing, specifically on aspects related to the building and exploitation of multilingual lexical resources, the extraction of information from natural language texts, and automatic synthesis.
Within the framework of these two lines of research, particular attention is given to developing language processing tools such as morphological and syntactic analyzers, grammatical taggers, corpus processing tools and generic automatic learning methods to tackle natural language processing (NLP), and to collecting language resources such as grammars, dictionaries, lexical databases and conceptual databases. Work is also being carried out on the processing of software specifications written in natural language, in order to design tools to help control the quality of software at the earliest possible stages. Work is being done on the development of dialog systems in collaboration with the Speech Processing Group and a start has been made on research in the field of speech translation.
